Speaker: Lad Akins, Director of Special Projects, REEF
Location: IGFA Theater
Description: Regular Meeting

Lad is going to give a talk on the proliferation of the lion fish and its impact on our reef system as well as discuss the current status of our reefs…..something critical to those who enjoy all that South Florida has to offer (including reef fishing and permit fishing). This is a VERY interesting and important topic and I hope you all can make it. We’ll also be raffling off a guided trip – and have much more interesting stuff to go over. Hope to see you all there…..

Date: Tuesday, March 25th, 2008
Time: Meeting - IGFA 7:00 PM
Speaker: Paul Shafland from FWC
Location: IGFA
Description: Regular Meeting

Our regular meeting is next Tues. night at the IGFA at 7:00 p.m., our featured speaker will be Paul Shafland, director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation's (FWC) Non-Native Fish Lab in Boca Raton. He was instrumental in the introduction of the Peacock Bass here in Florida and will enlighten us about the wide variety of exotic fish species which now inhabit our waters and, while their presence is debatable, they do provide a # of interesting and different fisheries.

This is going to be a very interesting presentation that Dave has arranged and I hope you all can attend.

We’ll of course, be meeting Mr. Shafland for dinner at Bass Pro Shops’ Marlin Bar prior to the meeting and hope many of you can join us! Hope to see you all then.

Date: Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
Time: Meeting - Be at IGFA parking lot by 6:30
Event: Field Trip to Nautilus Reels
Location: IGFA
Description: Nautilus Reels factory tour

Meeting Reminder: We have received a very favorable response to the tour of the Nautilus Reel factory next Tuesday evening February 26, 2008. I encourage all of you to attend as Kristen and Andreas have been very generous with our club, donating reels to our silent auctions each year - which has been a great help and benefitted us tremendously and helped us raise enough $ to donate to a worthwhile cause as well. They are really going to give us the full tour, are even having employees stay late to demonstrate equipment for us so we urge you to attend and give the club a good showing as well (and hopefully we’ll all learn something too!).

For those who would like – and have time, we will still plan on meeting up at the Marlin Bar for dinner – Dave and I will probably be there around 5 – 5:15, and plan on leaving the Parking Lot at the IGFA at 6:30 or thereabouts to be at the Nautilus shop by 7:00 p.m. We’ll be going against traffic on 95 so don’t anticipate traffic being a major factor but want to give ourselves enough time. We will all regroup (or meet if you are meeting us there) at 7:00 p.m. at Nautilus Reels Factory, 1549 NW 165 Street, Miami, FL 33169.

DIRECTIONS: From the IGFA its about 20 minutes – go 10.1 South on I95 – to Golden Glades to 826 (Palmetto Expressway) go west 1.2 miles to NW 12th Avenue exit 0.2 miles, Stay straight to go onto NW 167 Street (0.1 miles), then turn left onto NW 13 Avenue (0.2 miles), then right onto NW 165th Street (0.2 miles) – ending at 1549 NW 165 Street (Nautilus Reels). If you are coming from a different direction, you can use Mapquest to get directions to their address.

We won’t conduct club business etc. this month….will get back to that next month at our regular meeting. (Which will be very interesting as well…)

If you don't have a boat - there's canoe/kayaking spots as well..and a # of very knowledgable guides as well. We can help you get in touch w/them - just let me know. River Palm is a beautiful local - right on the river and the cottages are cute and comfortable. This year we've reserved cottages all in a group so there's more opportunity for interaction.
